| WHEREAS, Jean Glaze, a longtime Gilmer resident and civic | ||
| leader, passed away on January 29, 2011, at the age of 83; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The former Wilma Jean Franks was born to Samuel | ||
| Gordon and Maud Augusta Head Franks in Mexia on December 29, 1927; | ||
| she married Dr. Bob Glaze in Tyler in 1948, and six years later the | ||
| couple moved to Gilmer; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Over a span of some five decades, Mrs. Glaze devoted | ||
| her time and talents to many worthy endeavors and organizations in | ||
| the Gilmer community; as a board member for Gilmer Main Street on | ||
| the Square, she helped the town achieve recognition as the Texas | ||
| Main Street City of the Year in 1999 and designation as a National | ||
| Main Street City in 2000; among the other groups that gained | ||
| immeasurably from her membership and support were First Baptist | ||
| Church, where she worshipped for many years, and the Dahlia Garden | ||
| Club; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Mrs. Glaze also encouraged her husband in his | ||
| important work, which included serving in the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives from 1991 to 2003; the couple shared a rewarding | ||
| marriage of 62 years, until Dr. Glaze's death in 2010; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Jean Glaze touched the hearts of all who were | ||
| privileged to share in the richness of her life, and she will | ||
| forever be remembered with deep admiration and affection; now, | ||
| therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby pay tribute to the life of Jean Glaze and extend sincere | ||
| sympathy to the members of her family: to her son and | ||
| daughter-in-law, Dr. Andy Glaze and Sandra Glaze; to her daughters | ||
| and sons-in-law, Jeannie and Ken Smith and Jill McDaniel and Dr. | ||
| Randy McDaniel; to her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Loretta | ||
| Franks; to her 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and to | ||
| her other relatives and friends; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of | ||
| Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of | ||
| Jean Glaze. | ||
