| WHEREAS, For more than 90 years, Texas Southern University | ||
| has played an important role in higher education in the Lone Star | ||
| State, and while the school currently offers baccalaureate, | ||
| master's, and doctoral degree programs in numerous schools, it does | ||
| not have a divinity program or a school of religion; now, therefore, | ||
| be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 86th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby direct the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to | ||
| conduct a study on the creation of a divinity program, from | ||
| undergraduate to doctoral degrees, at Texas Southern University | ||
| with a goal to establish a program before the start of the 87th | ||
| regular legislative session; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official | ||
| copy of this resolution to the chair of the Texas Higher Education | ||
| Coordinating Board. | ||
