WHEREAS, Artist Colin Kimball was presented with the | ||
Distinguished Citizen Medal by the John F. Greer Chapter of the | ||
Daughters of the American Revolution at a ceremony in Melissa on May | ||
21, 2016; and | ||
WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Kimball is a | ||
gifted portrait artist who specializes in creating paintings of | ||
fallen American servicemen and -women; working from his own | ||
research, he creates stirring representations of military | ||
personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty; and | ||
WHEREAS, In 2013, Mr. Kimball and Marine Corps veteran Ronnie | ||
Foster created the Collin County Fallen Warriors Portrait Project, | ||
and Mr. Kimball embarked upon a mission to paint every member of the | ||
armed forces from the area who died in service to their country, | ||
from World War I to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan; as | ||
of Veterans Day 2016, he had created 42 portraits, which are proudly | ||
displayed on the Fallen Warriors Wall of Patriotism in the Collin | ||
County Courthouse; and | ||
WHEREAS, Mr. Kimball's work has also been exhibited at | ||
military bases at Quantico, Virginia, and Vincenza, Italy, as well | ||
as at The University of Texas at Austin, and he has published a book | ||
of his portraits, Currency of Honor; a resident of McKinney, he | ||
serves as historian of Bill Bryan Post No. 110 of the American | ||
Legion and as a member of the McKinney Armed Services Memorial Board | ||
and the Veterans Selection Committee of the Smiles Charity; and | ||
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to those | ||
men and women who answer their nation's call to duty, and Colin | ||
Kimball's creative and heartfelt efforts to honor those who have | ||
made the ultimate sacrifice are truly deserving of this special | ||
recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
hereby congratulate Colin Kimball on his receipt of a Distinguished | ||
Citizen Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution and | ||
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his | ||
important work; and, be it further | ||
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
prepared for Mr. Kimball as an expression of high regard by the | ||
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
