HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Artist Colin Kimball was presented with the |
|
Distinguished Citizen Medal by the John F. Greer Chapter of the |
|
Daughters of the American Revolution at a ceremony in Melissa on May |
|
21, 2016; and |
|
WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Kimball is a |
|
gifted portrait artist who specializes in creating paintings of |
|
fallen American servicemen and -women; working from his own |
|
research, he creates stirring representations of military |
|
personnel who gave their lives in the line of duty; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 2013, Mr. Kimball and Marine Corps veteran Ronnie |
|
Foster created the Collin County Fallen Warriors Portrait Project, |
|
and Mr. Kimball embarked upon a mission to paint every member of the |
|
armed forces from the area who died in service to their country, |
|
from World War I to the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan; as |
|
of Veterans Day 2016, he had created 42 portraits, which are proudly |
|
displayed on the Fallen Warriors Wall of Patriotism in the Collin |
|
County Courthouse; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Kimball's work has also been exhibited at |
|
military bases at Quantico, Virginia, and Vincenza, Italy, as well |
|
as at The University of Texas at Austin, and he has published a book |
|
of his portraits, Currency of Honor; a resident of McKinney, he |
|
serves as historian of Bill Bryan Post No. 110 of the American |
|
Legion and as a member of the McKinney Armed Services Memorial Board |
|
and the Veterans Selection Committee of the Smiles Charity; and |
|
WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to those |
|
men and women who answer their nation's call to duty, and Colin |
|
Kimball's creative and heartfelt efforts to honor those who have |
|
made the ultimate sacrifice are truly deserving of this special |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 85th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate Colin Kimball on his receipt of a Distinguished |
|
Citizen Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution and |
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his |
|
important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Kimball as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
