| WHEREAS, Kay Cross has been recognized with the 2011 Jane | ||
| O. Burns Award by the YWCA of Lubbock for her longtime service to | ||
| that respected community institution; and | ||
| WHEREAS, The YWCA of Lubbock is dedicated to empowering women | ||
| and their families, promoting women leaders, and establishing | ||
| strong role models for the next generation of South Plains women, | ||
| and all of these goals have been furthered by the contributions of | ||
| Kay Cross during her tenure as finance director; joining the YWCA in | ||
| 1986, when the agency was operating with 15 employees on a $300,000 | ||
| budget, she now provides fiscal management to an organization with | ||
| more than 250 employees and a budget of $5 million; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Cross utilizes her expertise to handle the funds | ||
| that support the YWCA, tracking spending and reporting on the | ||
| activities of 14 initiatives, including those that serve children | ||
| with special needs and with emotional and behavioral challenges and | ||
| those that promote women's health; going above and beyond her | ||
| financial duties, she also maintains positive relationships with | ||
| staff, customers, vendors, and community volunteers; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Known for her humility, dedication, and strong work | ||
| ethic, Ms. Cross consistently meets challenges with a smile and a | ||
| can-do attitude, and she inspires others with her warmth and sense | ||
| of caring; she stands at the forefront of those individuals who are | ||
| making a difference in their communities, and she is indeed | ||
| deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the 82nd Legislature of the State of Texas | ||
| hereby congratulate Kay Cross on her receipt of the Jane O. Burns | ||
| Award from the YWCA of Lubbock and extend to her sincere best wishes | ||
| for the future; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Cross as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives and Senate. | ||
