HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than half a century, Sue Brannon of Midland |
|
has contributed in myriad ways to the life of her community; and |
|
WHEREAS, This Waco native is a sixth-generation Texan who |
|
graduated from Waco High School and studied radio and television at |
|
Baylor University and interior design at the University of Colorado |
|
Boulder; and |
|
WHEREAS, She married Ed Brannon in 1955, and the couple |
|
settled in Midland, where they raised their three children and went |
|
on to become successful homebuilders; along the way, they also |
|
built the 868 Storage Units, which Mrs. Brannon continues to manage |
|
today; and |
|
WHEREAS, Taking an active interest in politics, the Brannons |
|
attended their first Republican Party county convention in Midland |
|
in 1960, and Mrs. Brannon has been a reliable presence at the events |
|
ever since; for the past 15 years, she has attended nearly every |
|
county commissioner and city council meeting as well, and she often |
|
goes to planning and zoning meetings; and |
|
WHEREAS, Widely known for her red, white, and blue clothing |
|
and sparkling accessories, this charismatic Texan has served on the |
|
board of the Midland County Republican Women since 1990; moreover, |
|
she is a former president of the board of the Texas Federation of |
|
Republican Women, which recognized her with the Tribute to |
|
Republican Women Award in 1996, and she has held leadership posts in |
|
the Midland County Republican Party; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to her numerous public-spirited |
|
endeavors, Mrs. Brannon volunteers her time as a docent at the |
|
George W. Bush Childhood Home, where she shares personal stories |
|
about her friendship with the Bush family; she is a valued member of |
|
the Golf Course Road Church of Christ, the Aaron Estes Chapter of |
|
the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, the National Rifle |
|
Association, and the Midland County Historical Society, and in |
|
2009, she was appointed to serve on the Commission on State |
|
Emergency Communications by Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Sue Brannon has dedicated herself to her faith, |
|
country, and family, and she serves as an outstanding role model for |
|
her fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 83rd Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby honor Sue Brannon for her years of civic engagement and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Brannon as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas Legislature. |
