relating to the authority of certain municipalities to change the | ||
date of the general election for officers. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 41.0052, Election Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subsection (a-1) and amending Subsection (c) to read as | ||
follows: | ||
(a-1) The governing body of a city that is intersected by | ||
State Highway 195 and Interstate Highway 14 and that holds its | ||
general election for officers on a uniform election date in May may, | ||
not later than December 31, 2024, change the date on which it holds | ||
its general election for officers to the uniform election date in | ||
November. This subsection expires January 1, 2025. | ||
(c) A home-rule city may implement a [ |

members of the governing body at the same election through the | ||
adoption of a resolution. The change contained in the resolution | ||
supersedes a city charter provision that requires a different | ||
general election date or that requires the terms of members of the | ||
governing body to be staggered. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
