| relating to requiring training in cultural competence for certain | ||
| employees of the Department of Family and Protective Services. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 40, Human Resources Code, | ||
| is amended by adding Section 40.0375 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 40.0375. TRAINING IN CULTURAL COMPETENCE. (a) In this | ||
| section, "cultural competence" means the ability to understand, | ||
| communicate with, and effectively interact with people from | ||
| different cultures. | ||
| (b) The department shall provide training in cultural | ||
| competence to employees who work in the family-based safety | ||
| services area. The training must educate employees on the ways in | ||
| which a person's cultural differences affect the person's views on | ||
| family and raising children. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
