| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 544, Transportation Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Section 544.014 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 544.014. CROSSWALK MARKING REQUIREMENTS. (a) | ||
| Notwithstanding any other law, a local authority shall indicate a | ||
| marked crosswalk with one of the following: | ||
| (1) solid white lines that are longitudinal, | ||
| transverse, or diagonal; or | ||
| (2) a Texas-themed mural described by Subsection (b). | ||
| (b) A Texas-themed mural authorized by Subsection (a)(2) | ||
| must: | ||
| (1) completely fill the boundaries of the marked | ||
| crosswalk; | ||
| (2) have a white, black, or unpainted background; and | ||
| (3) feature the shape of the State of Texas, painted in | ||
| the manner of the Texas flag. | ||
| (c) A municipality with a population of 100,000 or more | ||
| shall identify the five intersections that are most used by | ||
| pedestrians in the municipality and indicate each marked crosswalk | ||
| in those intersections with a Texas-themed mural described by | ||
| Subsection (b). | ||
| SECTION 2. (a) Notwithstanding Section 544.014(c), | ||
| Transportation Code, as added by this Act, a municipality is not | ||
| required to comply with that subsection until September 1, 2025. | ||
| (b) Not later than September 1, 2025, each municipality with | ||
| a population of 100,000 or more shall conduct a study to identify | ||
| the five intersections that are most used by pedestrians in the | ||
| municipality. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
