relating to crosswalk marking requirements. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 544, Transportation Code, is amended by | ||
adding Section 544.014 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 544.014. CROSSWALK MARKING REQUIREMENTS. (a) | ||
Notwithstanding any other law, a local authority shall indicate a | ||
marked crosswalk with one of the following: | ||
(1) solid white lines that are longitudinal, | ||
transverse, or diagonal; or | ||
(2) a Texas-themed mural described by Subsection (b). | ||
(b) A Texas-themed mural authorized by Subsection (a)(2) | ||
must: | ||
(1) completely fill the boundaries of the marked | ||
crosswalk; | ||
(2) have a white, black, or unpainted background; and | ||
(3) feature the shape of the State of Texas, painted in | ||
the manner of the Texas flag. | ||
(c) A municipality with a population of 100,000 or more | ||
shall identify the five intersections that are most used by | ||
pedestrians in the municipality and indicate each marked crosswalk | ||
in those intersections with a Texas-themed mural described by | ||
Subsection (b). | ||
SECTION 2. (a) Notwithstanding Section 544.014(c), | ||
Transportation Code, as added by this Act, a municipality is not | ||
required to comply with that subsection until September 1, 2025. | ||
(b) Not later than September 1, 2025, each municipality with | ||
a population of 100,000 or more shall conduct a study to identify | ||
the five intersections that are most used by pedestrians in the | ||
municipality. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
