relating to the authorization of health benefit plans that do not | ||
contain state-mandated health benefits. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Chapter 1507, Insurance Code, is amended by | ||
adding Subchapter C to read as follows: | ||
SUBCHAPTER C. CATASTROPHIC PLANS | ||
Sec. 1507.100. CATASTROPHIC HEALTH BENEFIT PLANS. | ||
Notwithstanding Subchapters A and B or any existing requirement, a | ||
health carrier or health maintenance organization may offer a | ||
catastrophic health benefit plan that does not include | ||
state-mandated health benefits as described by 1507.003(a) and | ||
1507.053(a). | ||
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to | ||
a standard health benefit plan that is delivered, issued for | ||
delivery, or renewed on or after September 1, 2017. A policy | ||
delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed before September 1, | ||
2017, is governed by the law as it existed immediately before the | ||
effective date of this Act, and that law is continued in effect for | ||
that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
