| relating to the sealing of applications and orders for the | ||
| installation and use of mobile tracking devices in certain law | ||
| enforcement investigations. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 14, Article 18.21, Code of Criminal | ||
| Procedure, is amended by adding Subsection (e-1) to read as | ||
| follows: | ||
| (e-1) The district judge shall seal any documents submitted | ||
| to the court under this section, and any order or extension of an | ||
| order issued under this section, until the period authorized by the | ||
| order and extension expires. | ||
| SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only | ||
| to an application for a mobile tracking device that is submitted on | ||
| or after the effective date of this Act. An application for a mobile | ||
| tracking device that is submitted before the effective date of this | ||
| Act is governed by the law in effect on the date the application was | ||
| submitted, and the former law is continued in effect for that | ||
| purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015. | ||
