A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to notification requirements for law enforcement agencies
  regarding a missing child with an intellectual disability or mental
  illness.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Chapter 63, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
  amended by adding Article 63.0093 to read as follows:
         Art. 63.0093.  NOTIFICATION REGARDING MISSING CHILD WITH
  INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY OR MENTAL ILLNESS. (a)  In this article,
  "intellectual disability" and "mental illness" have the meanings
  assigned by Article 46B.001.
         (b)  As soon as practicable after a law enforcement agency
  detains, arrests, or releases a missing child with an intellectual
  disability or mental illness, the agency shall notify the missing
  child's parent, managing conservator, or guardian regarding the
  agency's detention, arrest, or release.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
