A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to voluntary deductions from the wages or salaries of
  deputy sheriffs for contributions to political committees.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 155.001, Local Government Code, is
  amended by adding Subsection (c) to read as follows:
         (c)  In addition to a payroll deduction authorized under
  Subsection (a), a commissioners court, on the request of a deputy
  sheriff employed by the county, shall authorize a payroll deduction
  to be made from the deputy's wages or salary for contributions to a
  specified general-purpose committee. A payroll deduction made
  under this subsection shall be transferred directly to the
  committee.  In this subsection, "general-purpose committee" has the
  meaning assigned by Section 251.001, Election Code.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2011.
