A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to service of a notice of an application for a protective
  order.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 82.043(c), Family Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         (c)  Notice of an application for a protective order must be
  served on the person [in the same manner as citation under the Texas
  Rules of Civil Procedure, except that service by publication is not
  authorized].
         SECTION 2.  Section 82.043, Family Code, as amended by this
  Act, applies only to a notice of an application for a protective
  order served on or after the effective date of this Act. An
  application for a protective order served before the effective date
  of this Act is governed by the law in effect immediately before that
  date, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
