| general-purpose committee of certain political contributions made | ||
| to the committee. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Chapter 255, Election Code, is amended by adding | ||
| Section 255.010 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 255.010. DISCLOSURE BY GENERAL-PURPOSE COMMITTEE. A | ||
| general-purpose committee may not knowingly publish, distribute, | ||
| or broadcast a political advertisement containing express advocacy | ||
| that does not disclose in the advertising the identity of any person | ||
| who has made political contributions to the general-purpose | ||
| committee that in the aggregate exceed $10,000. The disclosure | ||
| must include: | ||
| (1) the name of the person who made the contributions; | ||
| (2) the city and state in which the person making the | ||
| contributions resides; | ||
| (3) the principal occupation of the person making the | ||
| contributions; and | ||
| (4) the amount of the contributions. | ||
| SECTION 2. Section 255.010, Election Code, as added by this | ||
| Act, applies only to an advertisement that is published, | ||
| distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee on or | ||
| after September 1, 2011. An advertisement that is published, | ||
| distributed, or broadcast by a general-purpose committee before | ||
| September 1, 2011, is governed by the law in effect immediately | ||
| before September 1, 2011, and the former law is continued in effect | ||
| for that purpose. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
