for local course credit. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 28.0026 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 28.0026. COLLEGE PREPARATORY COURSE. (a) To the | ||
greatest extent practicable, a school district shall offer to | ||
students attending high school in the district a college | ||
preparatory course for local course credit in accordance with | ||
Section 28.002(f). | ||
(b) A college preparatory course under Subsection (a) must | ||
include: | ||
(1) guidance concerning the college admissions | ||
process, including: | ||
(A) information concerning institutions of | ||
higher education with a wide range of admissions criteria; and | ||
(B) the availability of various types of | ||
financial aid and the qualifications for obtaining those various | ||
types of aid; | ||
(2) instruction designed to prepare students for | ||
successful performance on a specific college entrance examination; | ||
and | ||
(3) instruction on various forms of writing, | ||
especially essay writing, at the college level. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
