relating to the education requirements for certain property tax | ||
professionals to be eligible for registration. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 1151.152, Occupations Code, is amended | ||
to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 1151.152. ELIGIBILITY FOR REGISTRATION. (a) To be | ||
eligible for registration, an applicant must: | ||
(1) be at least 18 years of age; | ||
(2) reside in this state; | ||
(3) be of good moral character; | ||
(4) either: | ||
(A) hold an associate's degree or more advanced | ||
degree from an accredited institution of higher education or have | ||
successfully completed at least 59 hours of college credit from an | ||
accredited institution of higher education; or | ||
(B) have held: | ||
(i) an active license as a real estate | ||
broker or salesperson for at least four years; or | ||
(ii) an active license or certificate as a | ||
real estate appraiser for at least 12 months [ |

(5) be actively engaged in appraisal, assessment, or | ||
collection. | ||
(b) The department may register an applicant actively | ||
engaged in appraisal, assessment, or collection for an appraisal | ||
district located in a county with a population of less than 25,000 | ||
who does not meet the requirements of Subsection (a)(4) if the | ||
applicant is a graduate of an accredited high school or establishes | ||
high school graduation equivalency. | ||
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section | ||
1151.152, Occupations Code, applies only to an application for | ||
registration that is submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing | ||
and Regulation on or after the effective date of this Act. An | ||
application for registration submitted before that date is governed | ||
by the law in effect at the time the application was submitted, and | ||
the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
