relating to a study by the Texas Department of Transportation on | ||
public transportation services for people with disabilities. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 461.004, Transportation Code, is amended | ||
by adding Subsections (c) and (d) to read as follows: | ||
(c) Not later than December 31, 2012, the department shall | ||
conduct a study of public transportation services in this state | ||
designed for people with disabilities. The study must include: | ||
(1) identification of the different public | ||
transportation services in this state designed for people with | ||
disabilities; | ||
(2) evaluation of the efficiencies and inefficiencies | ||
of public transportation services in this state designed for people | ||
with disabilities, including any inefficiencies attributable to a | ||
lack of uniformity in eligibility standards among public | ||
transportation providers; and | ||
(3) conclusions regarding strategies to eliminate | ||
inefficiencies of public transportation services in this state | ||
designed for people with disabilities. | ||
(d) Not later than January 31, 2013, the department shall | ||
report and make recommendations on the findings of the study to the | ||
governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of | ||
representatives, and the appropriate committees of the | ||
legislature. This subsection and Subsection (c) expire March 1, | ||
2013. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
