A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the filing of applications for expunction of certain
  information contained in arrest records and files.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 2a(a), Article 55.02, Code of Criminal
  Procedure, is amended to read as follows:
         (a)  A person who is entitled to expunction of information
  contained in records and files under Article 55.01(d) may file an
  application for expunction with the attorney representing the state
  in the prosecution of felonies in the county in which:
               (1)  the person resides; or
               (2)  the offense was alleged to have occurred.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies to an expunction of information
  contained in arrest records and files relating to any criminal
  offense occurring before, on, or after the effective date of this
  Act.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
