relating to requiring school districts to make available certain | ||
school safety training courses to employees of child-care | ||
facilities and certain organizations providing out-of-school-time | ||
care. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 37.119 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 37.119. CHILD-CARE AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME CARE | ||
PROVIDER ACCESS TO SCHOOL SAFETY TRAINING. (a) In this section: | ||
(1) "Child-care facility" has the meaning assigned by | ||
Section 42.002, Human Resources Code. | ||
(2) "Organization providing out-of-school-time care" | ||
includes a faith-based organization, a before-school or | ||
after-school program, a summer camp, a Texas 4-H or other | ||
agricultural program, and a youth sports organization. | ||
(b) From money available for the purpose, a school district | ||
shall make available at no cost school safety training courses, | ||
including active shooter training courses, approved under Section | ||
25.0815, to employees of child-care facilities and other | ||
organizations providing out-of-school-time care to children | ||
younger than 18 years of age who reside in the district. | ||
(c) The agency may solicit and accept gifts, grants, and | ||
donations from any public or private source to pay the cost of | ||
offering a school safety training course under this section. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
