relating to the online renewal of driver's licenses of certain | ||
active duty military personnel and relatives. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 521.274(b), Transportation Code, is | ||
amended to read as follows: | ||
(b) A rule adopted under this section: | ||
(1) may prescribe eligibility standards for renewal | ||
under this section; | ||
(2) may not permit a person subject to the | ||
registration requirements under Chapter 62, Code of Criminal | ||
Procedure, to register by mail or electronic means; [ |
||
(3) may not permit renewal by mail or electronic means | ||
of a driver's license of a person who is 79 years of age or older; | ||
and | ||
(4) must allow for the renewal of a driver's license by | ||
electronic means, regardless of when the license expires, of: | ||
(A) a person who: | ||
(i) is on active duty in the armed forces of | ||
the United States; and | ||
(ii) is absent from the state; and | ||
(B) the spouse or dependent child of a person | ||
described by Paragraph (A). | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2015. |
