A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to protection from employment retaliation for reporting
  the existence of certain policies, patterns, or practices of a
  local entity or institution of higher education related to
  immigration.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 752, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 752.0535 to read as follows:
         Sec. 752.0535.  RETALIATION PROHIBITED FOR REPORTING
  VIOLATION. A local entity or institution of higher education may
  not suspend or terminate the employment of, or take other adverse
  personnel action against, a public employee who in good faith
  reports to an appropriate law enforcement authority the existence
  of a policy, pattern, or practice of the employing entity or
  institution that violates Section 752.053.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
