| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 443.024, Government Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (e) to read as follows: | ||
| (e) The flag of the State of Texas and the flag of the United | ||
| States shall be flown at half-staff at the Capitol building on the | ||
| death of a member of the armed forces of the United States who was a | ||
| resident of this state and who was killed in action. The flags shall | ||
| be displayed at half-staff for one day following the date the | ||
| person's family is notified of the person's death. The office of the | ||
| governor shall notify the State Preservation Board of the days on | ||
| which flags shall be flown at half-staff under this subsection. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2013. | ||
