veterinarians. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 215, Local Government | ||
Code, is amended by adding Section 215.007 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 215.007. VETERINARIANS. (a) In this section, | ||
"practice of veterinary medicine" and "veterinarian" have the | ||
meanings assigned by Section 801.002, Occupations Code. | ||
(b) Unless expressly authorized by law, a municipality may | ||
not adopt or enforce an ordinance, rule, or regulation that: | ||
(1) regulates the practice of veterinary medicine; or | ||
(2) prohibits a veterinarian from performing a | ||
procedure on an animal that is not prohibited under Chapter 801, | ||
Occupations Code, or other law. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
