| veterinarians. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 215, Local Government | ||
| Code, is amended by adding Section 215.007 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 215.007. VETERINARIANS. (a) In this section, | ||
| "practice of veterinary medicine" and "veterinarian" have the | ||
| meanings assigned by Section 801.002, Occupations Code. | ||
| (b) Unless expressly authorized by law, a municipality may | ||
| not adopt or enforce an ordinance, rule, or regulation that: | ||
| (1) regulates the practice of veterinary medicine; or | ||
| (2) prohibits a veterinarian from performing a | ||
| procedure on an animal that is not prohibited under Chapter 801, | ||
| Occupations Code, or other law. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2023. | ||
