relating to the categories of performance for which a public school | ||
campus may receive a distinction designation. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Section 39.203(c), Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(c) In addition to the distinction designations described | ||
by Subsections (a) and (b), a campus that satisfies the criteria | ||
developed under Section 39.204 shall be awarded a distinction | ||
designation by the commissioner for the following programs or the | ||
following specific categories of performance: | ||
(1) academic achievement in English language arts, | ||
mathematics, science, or social studies; | ||
(2) fine arts; | ||
(3) physical education; | ||
(4) 21st Century Workforce Development program; [ |
||
(5) second language acquisition program; and | ||
(6) school counseling program. | ||
SECTION 2. Section 39.204(c), Education Code, is amended to | ||
read as follows: | ||
(c) Each committee established under this section must | ||
include: | ||
(1) individuals who practice as professionals in the | ||
content area or service area relevant to the distinction | ||
designation, as applicable; | ||
(2) individuals with subject matter expertise in the | ||
content area or individuals with demonstrated expertise in the | ||
service area relevant to the distinction designation; | ||
(3) educators with subject matter expertise in the | ||
content area or educators with demonstrated expertise in the | ||
service area relevant to the distinction designation; and | ||
(4) community leaders, including leaders from the | ||
business community. | ||
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2011-2012 | ||
school year. | ||
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2011. |
