| relating to the creation of a hotline to report suspected incidents | ||
| of impaired driving or dangerous driving. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 411, Government Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 411.053 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 411.053. IMPAIRED OR DANGEROUS DRIVING HOTLINE. (a) | ||
| The department shall develop and operate a 24-hour-a-day hotline | ||
| for persons to report incidents of suspected driving while | ||
| intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol, controlled | ||
| substances, or drugs and dangerous driving to the department. | ||
| (b) The hotline must enable a person to report an incident | ||
| described by Subsection (a) to the department by: | ||
| (1) calling a toll-free telephone number; | ||
| (2) using an Internet website; or | ||
| (3) using other means of electronic communication, | ||
| including: | ||
| (A) e-mail message transmission; or | ||
| (B) text messaging. | ||
| (c) The department, as soon as practicable, shall forward a | ||
| report received on the hotline to the municipal police department | ||
| or sheriff's office with jurisdiction over the matter. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2011. | ||
