A BILL
TO AMEND ACT 164 OF 2003, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE NINE DEFINED SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS FROM WHICH THE MEMBERS OF THE UNION COUNTY BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES ARE ELECTED, SO AS TO REAPPORTION THESE SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS, TO UPDATE THE MAP NUMBER ON WHICH THESE SINGLE-MEMBER ELECTION DISTRICTS ARE DELINEATED, AND TO PROVIDE DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE REAPPORTIONED ELECTION DISTRICTS.
Amend Title To Conform
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. SECTION 1 of Act 164 of 2003, as last amended by Act 108 of 2015, is further amended to read:
"SECTION 1. (A) Notwithstanding another provision of law, beginning with the 2016 2022 school district elections, the nine defined single-member election districts from which each member of the Union County Board of School Trustees must reside in and be elected by the qualified electors of that district are as shown on the official map designated as S-87-00-15 S-87-00-22 prepared by and on file with the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office. The Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office shall provide a certified copy of the map to the school district and the Union County Board of Voter Registration and Elections. Only successors to those trustees whose terms expire in 2022 must be elected in the 2022 school district elections. The remaining incumbent members shall continue to serve until their current terms expire in 2024, and the successors to these members must be elected in the 2024 school district elections. The official map must not be changed except by an act of the General Assembly or by a court of competent jurisdiction.

SECTION 2. The exterior boundaries of the Union County School District are not altered by the provisions of this act. These school district lines are as defined by law and any census blocks which may be divided are done so only for statistical purposes and to establish a population base.
SECTION 3. SECTION 2 of Act 105 of 2021 is amended by adding an appropriately lettered subsection to read:
"( )(1) Pursuant to subsection (B), beginning with the school district elections in 2022, the seven single-member election districts from which the members of the Barnwell County Consolidated School District Board of Trustees must be elected are as shown on the Barnwell County Consolidated School District map S-11-00-22 as maintained by the Revenue and Fiscal Affairs Office.
(2) The demographic information shown on this map is as follows:

SECTION 4. The exterior boundaries of the Barnwell County Consolidated School District are not altered by the provisions of this act. These school district lines are as defined by law and any census blocks which may be divided are done so only for statistical purposes and to establish a population base.
SECTION 5. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
