A house RESOLUTION

 

TO CONGRATULATE Jannie Mae Bruce OF FLORENCE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER ninetieTH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

 

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Jannie Mae Bruce of Florence County will celebrate her ninetieth birthday on May 23, 2024; and

 

Whereas, born on May 23, 1934, in the first third of the twentieth century, she has witnessed the many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the first quarter of the twenty-first century; and

 

Whereas, the daughter of Sylvester Mack & Lillie Lee-Stevenson-Mack, Ms. Bruce was born in Darlington and was educated in the Darlington public school system; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Bruce served as a dietary assistant for more than twenty-five years with the New York City Board of Education before her retirement; and

 

Whereas, she served her church as the president of Pastor Aide for ten years, as a missionary member, and choir member, and she helped to feed the community, donated to the church clothing drive, and every week she visited the sick, the shut-ins, and those in the nursing home; and

 

Whereas together with her beloved husband, the late Norman Bruce, she reared six fine children: Margaree Glen, the late Ralph Mack, Janice Bruce-Hoyte, Janette Bruce, Norma Bruce-Addo, and Joann Bruce-Gordon; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Bruce's children have blessed her with the affection of ten loving grandchildren: Julie Mack Williams, Raquel Jones, Corey Mack, Daniel Glen, Ebony Hoyte-Wilson, Allan George, Stephanie Zuniga, Jihira Addo, Keith George, and the late Tyrone Mack. She has had the joy of seeing the continuation of her loving family legacy in twenty-five great-grandchildren; and

 

Whereas, Ms. Bruce received numerous awards for her dedication, commitment, and outstanding service to both the New York City and the Darlington communities, and now she resides in Florence with her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Joann and Steven Gordon; and

 

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her ninetieth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

 

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

 

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Jannie Mae Bruce of Florence County on the occasion of her ninetieth birthday and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

 

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Jannie Mae Bruce.
