A BILL
TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-1210, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DUTIES OF A MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, THE MOVING OF A VEHICLE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT, AND PENALTIES ASSOCIATED WITH FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS SECTION, SO AS TO INCREASE THE PENALTY IMPOSED UPON A PERSON WHO IS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN INJURY RESULTS BUT GREAT BODILY INJURY OR DEATH DOES NOT RESULT FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THIS SECTION.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 56-5-1210(A)(1) of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"(1) a misdemeanor felony and, upon conviction, must be imprisoned not less than thirty days nor more than one year five years or fined not less than one five hundred dollars nor more than five thousand two thousand five hundred dollars, or both, when injury results but great bodily injury or death does not result;"
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
