A RESOLUTION

Recognizing March 9, 2010, as "League of Women Voters Making

2

Democracy Work Day" in honor of The League of Women Voters'

3

90th anniversary.

4

WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters is an organization where

5

hands-on work to safeguard democracy leads to civic improvement;

6

and

7

WHEREAS, The League is a nonpartisan political organization

8

that has fought since 1920 to improve our system of government

9

and impact public policies through citizen education and

10

advocacy; and

11

WHEREAS, League members are constantly striving to serve

12

their communities to make them strong, safe, fair and vibrant

13

places to live; and

14

WHEREAS, The League believes in representative government and

15

in the individual liberties established in the Constitution of

16

the United States; and

WHEREAS, The League has always worked to promote the values

2

and processes of representative government; and

3

WHEREAS, The League collaborates with other organizations to

4

achieve mutual goals, increase civic participation, create

5

lasting change in the community and to make democracy work; and

6

WHEREAS, For 90 years, the League of Women Voters has held

7

the public trust by respectfully bringing elected leaders and

8

the public together through nonpartisan, civil means and through

9

thoughtfully advancing solutions; and

10

WHEREAS, The Commonwealth has benefited tremendously from the

11

countless volunteer hours donated by League members over its

12

90-year history of enhancing our democracy; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the Senate urge the residents of Pennsylvania

14

to pay great tribute and respect to the League of Women Voters

15

for all they do to make our community healthy, vibrant and

16

strong; and be it further

17

RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize March 9, 2010, as "League

18

of Women Voters Making Democracy Work Day" in honor of the

19

League of Women Voters' 90th anniversary.
