| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Designating the month of October 2009 as "Bullying Awareness |
2 | Month" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Bullying is intentional, repeated behavior by one or |
4 | more people, which can harm others physically and emotionally; |
5 | and |
6 | WHEREAS, Bullying is a type of abuse which can take many |
7 | forms and crosses all classes, ages, religions and areas without |
8 | discrimination; and |
9 | WHEREAS, Bullying is most common during elementary and middle |
10 | school years but also occurs in high school; and |
11 | WHEREAS, In one study of fourth through sixth graders, 25% of |
12 | the students admitted to bullying another student at least |
13 | several times during the school term and another study found |
14 | that 80% of middle school students reported engaging in some |
15 | form of bullying during the past 30 days, with 15% doing so |
16 | frequently; and |
17 | WHEREAS, In a national study of more than 15,000 students in |

1 | sixth through tenth grade, 17% reported having bullied on |
2 | occasion during the school term and 19% reported having been |
3 | bullied on occasion; therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of October 2009 |
5 | as "Bullying Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. |
