A RESOLUTION

Memorializing the State Treasurer, upon the enactment of the

2

General Appropriation Act of 2009, to release funding for

3

nonprofit and charitable services as quickly as possible.

4

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Charitable Nonprofit Caucus

5

provides a forum through which lawmakers can collaborate on

6

issues to enhance the ability of nonprofits to provide vital

7

services and resources to those in need; and

8

WHEREAS, This Commonwealth's 41,000 registered 501(c)(3)

9

nonprofit organizations improve the quality of life in our

10

communities and reduce the overall tax burden on individuals and

11

businesses by providing vital services and resources that would

12

otherwise be provided by the government; and

13

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's diverse and dynamic nonprofit

14

organizations are a key driver of our State and local economies,

15

employing more than 600,000 full-time workers in this

16

Commonwealth; and

17

WHEREAS, Thousands of nonprofit organizations contract or

receive grants to provide vital community services for State and

2

local agencies; and

3

WHEREAS, Charitable services throughout this Commonwealth

4

continue to experience a considerable strain of resources due to

5

the increased demand for charitable services; therefore be it

6

RESOLVED, That the Senate memorialize the State Treasurer,

7

upon the enactment of the General Appropriation Act of 2009, to

8

release funding for nonprofit and charitable services as quickly

9

as possible to ensure the continued operation of nonprofit and

10

charitable organizations.
