A RESOLUTION

Designating the week of January 30 through February 5, 2011, as

"Catholic Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are

4

celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" during the week beginning

5

January 30, 2011; and

6

WHEREAS, The theme for this year is "A+ for American Catholic

7

Schools"; and

8

WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools educate

9

approximately 159,250 students annually and save State and local

10

taxpayers more than $1 billion each year; and

11

WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong

12

foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and

13

leadership skills; and

14

WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people with a

15

strong foundation of the values and academic skills needed in

16

becoming responsible citizens of this Commonwealth and this

nation have a drop-out rate of less than 3% and a postgraduate

2

higher education rate of 90%; therefore be it

3

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the week of January 30

4

through February 5, 2011, as "Catholic Schools Week" in

5

Pennsylvania and express congratulations and appreciation to

6

Catholic elementary and secondary schools across this

7

Commonwealth on the occasion of Catholic Schools Week in 2011.
