A RESOLUTION
1Honoring the life of former Senator Donald O. Oesterling and
2extending condolences to his family.
3WHEREAS, Former Senator Donald O. Oesterling, who served the
4constituents of the 21st Senatorial District from 1964 to 1972,
5died on Sunday, January 20, 2013, at the age of 85; and
6WHEREAS, Senator Oesterling was originally from Butler, and,
7after he attended Butler public schools, he enlisted in the
8United States Navy Reserves and served in the Atlantic Theater
9during World War II; and
10WHEREAS, After earning his undergraduate degree from Capitol
11University, Senator Oesterling served as President of Regal
12Products, Inc., as a radio commentator; and
13WHEREAS, After being elected to serve as Senator for the 21st
14Senatorial District in 1964, he continued to serve until 1972;
1and
2WHEREAS, Senator Oesterling served on the Elections and
3Reapportionment Committee, which he chaired, the Forests and
4Waters, Game and Fish Committee, for which he was the Vice
5Chair, and as Majority Caucus Chairman; and
6WHEREAS, Even after his service in the Senate, Senator
7Oesterling continued to be active in his community and worked on
8a number of projects over the years, including serving as State
9President of the Pennsylvania Elks, exalted ruler of the Butler
10Elks and as a member of the American Legion and Veterans of
11Foreign Wars; and
12WHEREAS, Senator Oesterling is survived by his beloved wife,
13Ann, their three children, Dawn, Michael and Peter, his two
14brothers, Samuel and Thomas, as well as five grandchildren and
15three great-grandchildren; and
16WHEREAS, Senator Oesterling will always be remembered for his
17unceasing dedication to public and community service; therefore
18be it
19RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the life of Senator Donald O.
20Oesterling, express profound sorrow over the loss of this public
21servant and extend heartfelt condolences to his family.
