| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the week of June 19 through 25, 2011, as "Safety, |
2 | Health and Survival Week" in Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Each day, firefighters and emergency personnel who |
4 | respond to fire alarms are putting their personal safety in |
5 | jeopardy; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Firefighter fatality data compiled by the United |
7 | States Fire Administration has shown that firefighters "becoming |
8 | trapped and disoriented represent the largest portion of |
9 | structural fire ground fatalities"; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The International Association of Fire Chiefs |
11 | promotes fire safety for firefighters through several programs, |
12 | notably the Fire Ground Survival Program and Safety, Health and |
13 | Survival Week; and |
14 | WHEREAS, Safety, Health and Survival Week is a week-long |
15 | suspension of nonemergency activities which allows each fire |
16 | department to focus on safety, health and wellness-related |
17 | training and education until all firefighters and emergency |

1 | personnel within the department have taken part; and |
2 | WHEREAS, This year's theme is "Surviving the Fire Ground -- |
3 | Fire Fighter, Fire Officer and Command Preparedness"; and |
4 | WHEREAS, It is fitting to honor firefighters and emergency |
5 | personnel throughout this Commonwealth and encourage their |
6 | participation in Safety, Health and Survival Week; therefore be |
7 | it |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of June 19 |
9 | through 25, 2011, as "Safety, Health and Survival Week" in |
10 | Pennsylvania. |
