A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of May 2009 as "Exercise is Medicine
Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The health and well-being of Pennsylvania's
residents are vital to this Commonwealth's welfare every day of
the year, and the Commonwealth asks residents to implement the
Exercise is Medicine program into their daily routines; and
WHEREAS, Participation in regular, moderate physical activity
can positively affect the lives of all Pennsylvanians; and
WHEREAS, Research presented by Exercise is Medicine has shown
that exercise has curative and protective health benefits and
that the health benefits of physical activity and exercise can
improve the quality of life for everyone; and
WHEREAS, Statistics and studies have shown that a healthier
population means effective health care cost savings, greater
participation in the work force and other benefits to society;
and
WHEREAS, Through physical activity, residents of this
Commonwealth can improve their lives by practicing healthier and
more active lifestyles, and realize the happiness that good
health can bring to an individual; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate encourage all residents of this
Commonwealth to devote the month of May 2009 to the recognition
of the residents, physicians, health and fitness professionals
and supporting organizations to emphasize and celebrate the
valuable benefits of exercise; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of May 2009 as
"Exercise is Medicine Month" in Pennsylvania.
