| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending Title 74 (Transportation) of the Pennsylvania |
2 | Consolidated Statutes, providing for the designation of the |
3 | Crawford Lakelands Byway as a scenic byway. |
4 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
5 | hereby enacts as follows: |
6 | Section 1. Title 74 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
7 | Statutes is amended by adding a section to read: |
8 | § 8307. Designation of the Crawford Lakelands Byway as a scenic |
9 | byway. |
10 | (a) General rule.--Because of its outstanding scenic, |
11 | historic, recreational cultural, natural and archeological |
12 | characteristics and qualities and because of opportunities for |
13 | economic development and tourism and for conservation of the |
14 | outstanding qualities along the road, the portion of U.S. Route |
15 | 6, from the Ohio/Pennsylvania State Line Segment No. 0010/0000 |
16 | to State Route 18 Segment No. 0350/2046 through Sadsbury |
17 | Township, Conneaut Lake Borough, Summit Township, Pine Township, |
18 | Linesville Borough and Conneaut Township continuing on State |

1 | Route 18 from U.S. 6/322 Segment No. 0110/0000 to State Route |
2 | 618 Segment No. 0190/0078 in Sadsbury Township and Summit |
3 | Township continuing on State Route 618 from U.S. 6 Segment |

11 | hereby designated as a scenic byway to be known as the Crawford | <-- |
12 | Lakelands Byway. |
13 | (b) Effect of designation.--No outdoor advertising device, |
14 | as defined in section 3 of the act of December 15, 1971 |
15 | (P.L.596, No.160), known as the Outdoor Advertising Control Act |
16 | of 1971, may be erected: |
17 | (1) within 660 feet of the nearest edge of the right-of- |
18 | way; or |
19 | (2) more than 660 feet from the nearest edge of the |
20 | right-of-way, outside of urban areas, if the sign is visible |
21 | from the main-traveled way of the scenic byway and the |
22 | purpose of the sign is that its message be read from the |
23 | main-traveled way of the scenic byway, except: |
24 | (i) the official signs and notices which are |
25 | required or authorized by law and which conform to the |
26 | national standards promulgated by the Secretary of |
27 | Transportation of the United States pursuant to 23 U.S.C. |
28 | § 131 (relating to control of outdoor advertising); |
29 | (ii) outdoor advertising devices advertising the |
30 | sale or lease of the real property upon which they are |

2 | (iii) outdoor advertising devices advertising |
3 | activities conducted on the property on which they are |
4 | located, including devices which display a message that |
5 | may be changed at reasonable intervals by electronic |
6 | process or remote control; |
7 | (iv) directional signs, including, but not limited |
8 | to, signs pertaining to natural wonders, scenic and |
9 | historical attractions and other points of interest to |
10 | the traveling public which conform to the national |
11 | standards promulgated by the Secretary of Transportation |
12 | of the United States pursuant to 23 U.S.C. § 131; and |
13 | (v) signs approved by the department designating the |
14 | route as a scenic byway installed in accordance with |
15 | department requirements. |
16 | (c) Public use maps.--All public use maps produced by the |
17 | department for travel, tourism and business interests shall give |
18 | special identification of this route and briefly summarize that |
19 | the General Assembly established the designation because of the |
20 | outstanding scenic, historic, natural, recreational and |
21 | archeological characteristics and outstanding qualities and |
22 | opportunities for economic development, tourism and conservation |
23 | of the sights along the route. |
24 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
