A RESOLUTION

Designating October 2010 as "Central European Heritage Month" in

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Our Commonwealth is home to more than 3 million

4

Americans of Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Czech, Bohemian,

5

Lithuanian and Slovak ancestry; and

6

WHEREAS, These individuals share a rich and diverse history

7

in their escape from political repression, discrimination,

8

poverty and religious persecution, as well as the journey they

9

embarked on in venturing to the United States; and

10

WHEREAS, Their rapid influx into this country and dedicated

11

work ethic expedited their assimilation into American culture

12

and fueled our country's Industrial Revolution, the likes of

13

which was unprecedented throughout the globe; and

14

WHEREAS, Many of these individuals settled throughout

15

Pennsylvania, enriching the tapestry of this Commonwealth with

their traditions, culture and heritage; therefore be it

2

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October

3

2010 as "Central European Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania; and

4

be it further

5

RESOLVED, That all residents of this Commonwealth be

6

encouraged to take part in honoring the traditions, culture and

7

heritage of the Central European immigrants who helped develop

8

Pennsylvania.
