A RESOLUTION

Designating the month of October 2010 as "Pork Producers Month"

2

in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's pork industry contributes more than

4

$2,750,000,000 to the economy of this Commonwealth and supports

5

8,000 jobs; and

6

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks 13th in the nation in pork

7

production; and

8

WHEREAS, More than 3,600 farm families care for more than

9

1,100,000 hogs and pigs which in turn support agribusinesses and

10

crop producers, thus providing Pennsylvania consumers with

11

abundant wholesome choices of pork products; and

12

WHEREAS, Great strides have been made in the pork industry

13

through innovative technology and progress in research,

14

genetics, production and management, resulting in an economical

and nutritious product for today's consumers; and 

2

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania pork producers are true stewards of the

3

land, demonstrating "We Care" through a national initiative

4

based on ethical production principles and a commitment to

5

producing safe food, protecting and promoting animal well-being,

6

ensuring practices to protect public health, safeguarding

7

natural resources in all of their practices, providing a work

8

environment which is safe and contributing to a better quality

9

of life in their communities; therefore be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the

11

month of October 2010 as "Pork Producers Month" in Pennsylvania

12

and recognize the Pennsylvania pork industry and pork producers

13

for their support in advancing the quality of pork production

14

and products, to educate the public on issues affecting the pork

15

industry and to promote pork in all markets; and be it further

16

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all citizens

17

to enjoy this Commonwealth's abundant supply of safe, healthy

18

and affordable pork products.
