A RESOLUTION

Designating October 10, 2010, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities

2

Day" in Pennsylvania.

3

WHEREAS, Each year there are approximately 42,000 traffic

4

fatalities nationwide; and

5

WHEREAS, There are many controllable causes of traffic

6

fatalities, including excessive speed, alcohol, drugs,

7

inexperience and carelessness; and

8

WHEREAS, The National Society of Professional Engineers, the

9

Institute of Transportation Engineers Expert Witness Council and

10

a coalition of government agencies have teamed up to focus

11

national public awareness October 10, 2010, regarding the cause

12

of traffic fatalities and the need to reduce the number of

13

traffic fatalities; and

14

WHEREAS, There is national interest in designating October

10, 2010, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day"; and

2

WHEREAS, On that day everyone should take an extra measure of

3

care to ensure their safety and the safety of sharing the road

4

with other users in a safe manner by:

5

(1)  Driving courteously and defensively.

6

(2)  Knowing the rules of the road for their method of

7

transportation and obeying all signs and signals.

8

(3)  Wearing protective gear, seat belts or helmets.

9

(4)  Avoiding speeding or driving while impaired or

10

driving aggressively;

11

therefore be it

12

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate October

13

10, 2010, as "Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day" in Pennsylvania.
