A RESOLUTION

Celebrating the success and achievement of the Wilkes-

2

Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights Hockey Club in winning the USA

3

Hockey National Championship on April 1, 2012.

4

WHEREAS, The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights Hockey Club

5

began in 2005 as an opportunity for aspiring young athletes in

6

northeastern Pennsylvania to enjoy the sport of ice hockey in a

7

safe, challenging and educational environment; and

8

WHEREAS, The goal of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights

9

Hockey Club is to provide players the opportunity to compete at

10

a higher level throughout youth hockey, open doors for players

11

and access outlets beyond local youth hockey, including prep

12

school, junior, college and even professional hockey and most

13

importantly, help each hockey player attain personal and

14

emotional awareness, growth and an overall feeling of success

15

and knowledge that each can use throughout life; and

16

WHEREAS, The team achieved success and an experience all of

their players and fans will remember for a lifetime by winning

2

the USA Hockey National Championship with a hard fought 4-2

3

victory on Sunday, April 1, 2012, over the St. Louis Blues; and

4

WHEREAS, Along with the National Championship, the team also

5

won the Rochester Invitational in Rochester, New York; the Bauer

6

Invite in Chicago, Illinois; the Nations Cut in Lansing,

7

Michigan; the Silver Stick in Detroit, Michigan; the Atlantic

8

Youth Hockey League Season Championship, the USA Hockey Atlantic

9

District Championship and the USA Hockey National Championship

10

in Buffalo, New York; and

11

WHEREAS, The team earned a record of 71-4-7 with team members

12

Nicholas Valardo, Gavin Lewis, Paul DeNaples, Ryan Flanagan,

13

David Eifert, Danial Sprong, Eugene Fadyeyev, Ivan Provorov,

14

Denis Smirnov, Louis DeNaples, Alex Rowella, Patrick West,

15

Nikita Pavlychev, Jean-Sebastien Taillefer, Elijah Latimer,

16

Marcus Joseph, Derek Hamelin, Nikita Anistratenko, Michael

17

Morrissey and Cody Petawabano; and

18

WHEREAS, The team is led by Head Coach Alex Vasko, Assistant

19

Coach Scott Lewis and Manager Ann Morrissey; therefore be it

20

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives celebrate the

21

success and achievement of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Jr. Knights

22

Hockey Club in winning the USA Hockey National Championship on

23

April 1, 2012, and the many other victories the team and its

24

players have attained throughout the season; and be it further

25

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the

26

team and its staff in working throughout the playing season to

27

provide the players and their families with lifelong learning

28

experiences that can help them attain success throughout their

29

lives.
