| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing the River City Brass Band as the most active and |
2 | only year-round professional concert band in America. |
3 | WHEREAS, The mission of the River City Brass Band is to |
4 | propagate and perpetuate musical culture, primarily American |
5 | musical culture, across a broad spectrum of the public through |
6 | the presentation of brass band performances, educational |
7 | programs and the production of recordings and has as its central |
8 | obligation service to the people of western Pennsylvania; and |
9 | WHEREAS, On November 21, 1981, the River City Brass Band |
10 | performed at the Carnegie Music Hall for its inaugural concert; |
11 | and |
12 | WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band performs a 56-concert |
13 | series in eight different venues in western Pennsylvania; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band also tours extensively |
15 | throughout the United States with more than 20 performances each |
16 | year as part of community concert series, major symphony pops |
17 | series and arts festivals; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Every performance features superb soloists, and the |
2 | band's extensive repertoire includes American tunes, big band |
3 | swing and jazz, music from Broadway and Hollywood, classical and |
4 | contemporary masterworks and traditional marches; and |
5 | WHEREAS, In addition to its unique performance style, the |
6 | River City Brass Band is renowned for its recordings and |
7 | original compositions and has released 15 recordings; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band is a nonprofit |
9 | organization supported, in part, by contributions from |
10 | individuals, corporations and foundations; therefore be it |
11 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the |
12 | River City Brass Band as the most active and only year-round |
13 | professional concert band in America. |
