A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the River City Brass Band as the most active and
only year-round professional concert band in America.
WHEREAS, The mission of the River City Brass Band is to
propagate and perpetuate musical culture, primarily American
musical culture, across a broad spectrum of the public through
the presentation of brass band performances, educational
programs and the production of recordings and has as its central
obligation service to the people of western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, On November 21, 1981, the River City Brass Band
performed at the Carnegie Music Hall for its inaugural concert;
and
WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band performs a 56-concert
series in eight different venues in western Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band also tours extensively
throughout the United States with more than 20 performances each
year as part of community concert series, major symphony pops
series and arts festivals; and

WHEREAS, Every performance features superb soloists, and the
band's extensive repertoire includes American tunes, big band
swing and jazz, music from Broadway and Hollywood, classical and
contemporary masterworks and traditional marches; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its unique performance style, the
River City Brass Band is renowned for its recordings and
original compositions and has released 15 recordings; and
WHEREAS, The River City Brass Band is a nonprofit
organization supported, in part, by contributions from
individuals, corporations and foundations; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
River City Brass Band as the most active and only year-round
professional concert band in America.
