A RESOLUTION

Recognizing September 13, 2009, as "Grandparents' Day" in

2

Pennsylvania.

WHEREAS, Grandparents' Day was officially recognized by the

4

Federal Government in 1978 as a day to recognize the important

5

role grandparents have in our society; and

6

WHEREAS, Grandparents' Day signifies a loving spirit that

7

lives within all of us, a spirit of respect and love for our

8

elders; and

9

WHEREAS, Grandparents have been and remain a valuable source

10

of love and wisdom for their grandchildren, children and

11

communities; and

12

WHEREAS, Many times, only grandparents have answers to

questions about family histories, and their memories assure that

2

our heritage is preserved; and

3

WHEREAS, Grandparents' Day provides children the opportunity

4

to learn patience, discover their roots and gain an

5

understanding and appreciation for the elderly; and

6

WHEREAS, Grandparents' Day is a time to reflect and reach out

7

to the elderly who are shut-ins, live in nursing homes, are

8

unable to be with their families or have no families; therefore

9

be it

10

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize

11

September 13, 2009, as "Grandparents' Day" in Pennsylvania.
