| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Honoring the Anne Frank Elementary School, in the Northeast |
2 | region of the City of Philadelphia, on the occasion of its |
3 | 50th anniversary for successfully meeting the challenges of |
4 | serving a uniquely diverse student population and for |
5 | preparing students to be contributing members of society in |
6 | this Commonwealth. |
7 | WHEREAS, The Anne Frank Elementary School, located in the |
8 | Northeast region of the City of Philadelphia and serving |
9 | preschool to fifth-grade students, is named for the historically |
10 | well-known and highly regarded teenager, Anne Frank; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Born in 1929, Anne Frank was a courageous Dutch- |
12 | Jewish girl who wrote a diary during World War II that |
13 | chronicled her life while she and her family hid for more than |
14 | 700 days from the Nazis; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Formerly known as the Bustleton Elementary School, |
16 | the Anne Frank Elementary School was renamed in 1987 to provide |
17 | an appropriate role model to young people who attend the school; |
18 | and |

1 | WHEREAS, Although Ms. Frank was eventually captured and died |
2 | during 1945 in a Nazi concentration camp at the young age of 15, |
3 | she is remembered for her tremendous courage and for never |
4 | despairing, even as she firmly embraced her hopes and dreams and |
5 | recorded them in her diary; and |
6 | WHEREAS, After her untimely death, Ms. Frank's diary was |
7 | published in English in 1952 as "The Diary of A Young Girl," and |
8 | this book has inspired generations of young readers in the |
9 | decades since; and |
10 | WHEREAS, The Anne Frank Elementary School is unique for its |
11 | diverse student population, consisting of children from more |
12 | than 40 different nations reflecting a great diversity of native |
13 | languages; and |
14 | WHEREAS, The student population includes, among others, |
15 | Asian-Pacific, Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic and |
16 | multiracial students, as well as students with learning and |
17 | physical disabilities; and |
18 | WHEREAS, This highly distinctive student body presents the |
19 | challenge of addressing the many varied academic, social and |
20 | emotional needs that arise from such diversity; and |
21 | WHEREAS, The school's administrators, teachers and parents |
22 | embrace the challenges inherent in such a diverse school |
23 | population, and teachers and students come to school each day |
24 | ready and eager to meet the challenge of a rigorous learning |
25 | environment; and |
26 | WHEREAS, The Anne Frank Elementary School's professional |
27 | educators who serve preschool to fifth-grade students take a |
28 | holistic approach to educate the students; and |
29 | WHEREAS, Such a holistic approach includes fostering a |
30 | nurturing environment that encourages children to be lifelong |

1 | readers and learners and that builds an appreciation of the |
2 | basics of learning, the arts, physical well-being, technology |
3 | and helping others; and |
4 | WHEREAS, The Anne Frank Elementary School has a record |
5 | spanning five decades of successfully preparing its students, |
6 | both academically and socially, to be able to succeed in life |
7 | and to contribute to the improvement of society; and |
8 | WHEREAS, It is altogether appropriate that this fine school, |
9 | named in honor of the life of Anne Frank, embrace its diverse |
10 | student population and have as its core mission to nurture, |
11 | encourage and protect the hopes and dreams of its young students |
12 | and to serve as a beacon of hope for the community; therefore be |
13 | it |
14 | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the Anne |
15 | Frank Elementary School, in the Northeast region of the City of |
16 | Philadelphia, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary for |
17 | successfully meeting the challenges of serving a uniquely |
18 | diverse student population and for preparing students to be |
19 | contributing members of society in this Commonwealth. |
