A RESOLUTION

Honoring Lehigh Valley Chapter 415 and all other local chapters

2

of the Vietnam Veterans of America in Pennsylvania on the

3

34th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, April 30,

4

2009.

WHEREAS, Founded in 1978, Vietnam Veterans of America is the

6

only national, congressionally chartered Vietnam veterans

7

organization and is exclusively dedicated to Vietnam-era

8

veterans and their families; and

9

WHEREAS, Vietnam Veterans of America promotes and supports a

10

full range of issues important to Vietnam veterans and seeks to

11

create a new identity for the current generation of veterans and

12

change public perception of Vietnam veterans; and

WHEREAS, Vietnam Veterans of America has more than 630 local

2

chapters, 26 of which are in Pennsylvania, as well as a

3

Pennsylvania State Council based in Newtown Square; and

4

WHEREAS, Lehigh Valley Chapter 415 is one of the 26 local

5

chapters in this Commonwealth that aggressively advocates issues

6

that are important to veterans, such as helping them to gain

7

full access to quality health care and helping to identify the

8

full range of disabling injuries and illnesses incurred during

9

military service; and

10

WHEREAS, Lehigh Valley Chapter 415 and all Pennsylvania

11

chapters of Vietnam Veterans of America are dedicated to

12

creating a positive public perception of Vietnam veterans,

13

striving to account for all POW/MIAs and supporting the next

14

generation of America's war veterans; and

15

WHEREAS, On April 30, 1975, the last Americans departed from

16

Saigon, concluding the United States' involvement in Vietnam;

17

therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Lehigh

19

Valley Chapter 415 and all Pennsylvania chapters of the Vietnam

20

Veterans of America on the 34th anniversary of the end of the

21

Vietnam War, April 30, 2009.
