A RESOLUTION

  

1

Honoring West Philadelphia Catholic High School's 2010 football

2

team for winning the 2010 Pennsylvania Interscholastic

3

Athletic Association Class AA State Football Championship and

4

for being named the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2010 Southeastern

5

Pennsylvania Football Team of the Year.

6

WHEREAS, Two years after a crushing, double-overtime 35-34

7

loss to Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association

8

District 10's Wilmington Area High School in 2008, West

9

Philadelphia Catholic High School returned to Hershey Stadium

10

this past December 18 and gained redemption by defeating

11

District 7's South Fayette High School 50-14; and

12

WHEREAS, The Burrs' season began with only one victory in its

13

first three games, but it embarked on a 12-game winning streak

14

that was capped with the program's first PIAA Class AA State

15

Championship; and

16

WHEREAS, During this marvelous season, the Burrs outscored

17

foes by 500-108, and, in its seven playoff games, they won by

263-56; and

WHEREAS, With 1,556 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, tailback

3

Brandon Hollomon spurred an offense that averaged 36.5 points

4

per game, and fellow backs Joshua Mathis, with 984 yards, and

5

sophomore David Williams, with 924 yards, nearly eclipsed the

6

1,000 seasonal yards mark; and

7

WHEREAS, Quarterback Anthony Reid had an impressive season by

8

throwing for 1,431 yards and scoring 15 touchdowns; and 

9

WHEREAS, West's fast offensive line contributed to these

10

awesome statistics, and its powerful defense kept opponents from

11

putting many points on the board, especially in the Championship

12

where it held a team averaging 46 points per game to a mere 14

13

points; and

14

WHEREAS, Because of its exceptional season, the 2010 West

15

Philadelphia Catholic High School football team was named the

16

2010 Southeastern Pennsylvania Football Team of the Year by the

17

Philadelphia Inquirer; and

18

WHEREAS, Team members are:

Philadelphia Catholic High School's 2010 football team for

winning the 2010 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic

21

Association Class AA State Football Championship and for being

22

named the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2010 Southeastern Pennsylvania

23

Football Team of the Year.
