A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life of Samuel J. Bianco, distinguished labor

2

leader and citizen, and extending condolences upon his death

3

on September 28, 2010.

4

WHEREAS, Samuel J. Bianco was a past president of the Greater

5

Wilkes-Barre Labor Council of the American Federation of Labor

6

and Congress of Industrial Organization (AFL-CIO), cochairman

7

for the Northeast Pennsylvania Area Labor Management Council and

8

district manager for the International Garment Workers Union of

9

Pittston and Wilkes-Barre which received numerous awards under

10

his leadership, and he served on the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO

11

Community Services Committee; and

12

WHEREAS, Mr. Bianco was a member of the Board of Directors

13

and Finance Committee for the United Way of Wyoming Valley and

14

chairman of its Labor Participation Committee; and

15

WHEREAS, He served as Pennsylvania Delegate to the White

16

House Conference on Aging and was a past State vice-president

17

for the Pennsylvania Alliance for Retired Americans and

18

president of the Alliance for Retired Americans District 3; and

WHEREAS, He was a board member of the United Rehabilitation

2

Services and the Lackawanna County Board of Assistance; and

3

WHEREAS, After graduating from Vandling High School, Mr.

4

Bianco served his country with distinction as a member of the

5

United States Army Tank Corps during World War II; and

6

WHEREAS, After a life of public service and dedication to

7

family and community, Mr. Bianco died on September 28, 2010; and

8

WHEREAS, Mr. Bianco is survived by his wife, Clara; son,

9

David; daughters, Barbara Pasterchik and Sandra Guman; four

10

grandchildren; and extended family; therefore be it

11

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

12

Samuel J. Bianco, distinguished labor leader and citizen, and

13

extend condolences upon his death on September 28, 2010.
