| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated |
2 | Statutes, further providing for school bus requirements. |
3 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
4 | hereby enacts as follows: |
5 | Section 1. Section 4552 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania |
6 | Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read: |
7 | § 4552. General requirements for school buses. |

9 | (b.4) Use of child restraint systems.--Every school bus |
10 | shall be equipped with a child restraint system that is in |
11 | conformity with 49 CFR 571.222 (relating to Standard No.222; |
12 | School bus passenger seating and crash protection). The child |
13 | restraint system is mandated according to the following |
14 | schedule: |
15 | (1) School buses may be equipped with a child restraint |
16 | system after December 31, 2012. |
17 | (2) Every new school bus purchased and manufactured |
18 | after June 30, 2013, shall be equipped with a child restraint |

2 | (3) By July 1, 2019, every school bus shall be equipped |
3 | with a child restraint system. |
4 | The department shall adopt regulations implementing this |
5 | subsection. |
