AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, further providing for school bus requirements.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 4552 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
§ 4552. General requirements for school buses.

(b.4) Use of child restraint systems.--Every school bus
shall be equipped with a child restraint system that is in
conformity with 49 CFR 571.222 (relating to Standard No.222;
School bus passenger seating and crash protection). The child
restraint system is mandated according to the following
schedule:
(1) School buses may be equipped with a child restraint
system after December 31, 2012.
(2) Every new school bus purchased and manufactured
after June 30, 2013, shall be equipped with a child restraint
system.
(3) By July 1, 2019, every school bus shall be equipped
with a child restraint system.
The department shall adopt regulations implementing this
subsection.
