AN ACT

Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated

2

Statutes, further providing for traffic-control signals and

3

for pedestrian-control signals.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Sections 3112(a)(1)(ii) and 3113(a)(1) of Title

7

75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes are amended to

8

read:

9

§ 3112.  Traffic-control signals.

10

(a)  General rule.--Whenever traffic is controlled by

11

traffic-control signals exhibiting different colored lights, or

12

colored lighted arrows, successively one at a time or in

13

combination, only the colors green, red and yellow shall be

14

used, except for special pedestrian signals carrying a word

15

legend, and the lights shall indicate and apply to drivers of

16

vehicles and pedestrians as follows:

(1)  Green indication.--

(ii)  Vehicular traffic facing a green arrow signal,

2

shown alone or in combination with another indication,

3

may enter the intersection only to make the movement

4

indicated by the arrow, or such other movement as is

5

permitted by other indications shown at the same time.

[Such vehicular traffic shall yield the right-of-way to

7

pedestrians lawfully within an adjacent crosswalk and to

8

other traffic lawfully using the intersection.] A green

9

arrow signal shall not be displayed at a signalized

10

intersection whenever a pedestrian-control signal at that

11

intersection is showing the word "Walk" or walking person

12

symbol in any direction at that intersection.

§ 3113.  Pedestrian-control signals.

15

(a)  General rule.--Whenever special pedestrian-control

16

signals exhibiting words or symbols are in place, the signals

17

shall indicate as follows:

(1)  Word "Walk" or walking person symbol.--Pedestrians

19

facing the signal should proceed across the roadway in the

20

direction of the signal and shall be given the right-of-way

21

by the drivers of all vehicles. At no time shall any vehicle

22

proceed in any direction through a signalized intersection

23

equipped with pedestrian-control signals when the word "Walk"

24

or walking person symbol is showing in any direction at that

25

intersection.

Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
