AN ACT

  

1

Designating September 11 of each year as "Pennsylvania Emergency

2

Responders' Day."

3

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

4

hereby enacts as follows:

5

Section 1.  September 11 designation.

6

September 11 of each year shall be known as "Pennsylvania

7

Emergency Responders' Day."

8

Section 2.  Purpose.

9

This day shall be set apart as a day of gratitude to and

10

profound respect for all past and present firefighters, public

safety providers, drivers of emergency vehicles, emergency

2

medical service prehospital providers, emergency dispatchers,

3

first response teams, police officers and all who serve in this

4

Commonwealth as emergency and disaster responders. This day

5

shall affirm that these heroes help our citizens every day in

6

extraordinary ways.

7

Section 3.  Observance of day.

8

This day shall be observed by citizens and political

9

subdivisions by:

10

(1)  Devoting some part of the day to the recognition of

11

all local public safety personnel.

12

(2)  Making an effort to emphasize the duty of citizens

13

to cooperate with and acknowledge the efforts of public

14

safety personnel.

15

(3)  Observing a moment of silence in recognition of the

16

events of September 11, 2001, for those who lost their lives

17

that day and for all who have lost their lives in the

18

selfless effort of making Pennsylvania safer for all.

19

Section 4.  Effective date.

20

This act shall take effect in 60 days.
